I have a few of this guy's records, and I barely know a damned thing about him. I love Welcome Nowhere, but it's clear that it's basically a Phil Elverum record with Adrian just singing on it. The 3LP self-titled is good but not as strong. Bitches is Lord is just fantastic, and ...and her band is phenomenal as well. I don't really have any of the other ones, though I just downloaded The River and was really surprised at how hi-fi, slick, and "professional" it sounds.
Anyone want to have a general thread about this guy? Any links to where I can a lot more information in general about the different records, the circumstances in which they were made and his thoughts on them?

Talking about Adrian makes me sad :/
I'd have to disagree with your Welcome Nowhere comment, as I believe it is very unique and distinct from Phil's style. That's not to say you cannot hear Phil's influence and production on the album, as you clearly can, but to call it a Phil album with just Adrian singing is a little demeaning.
The 3LP is awesome but I agree, not as strong. It's got so many songs, and so many standouts, but yeah there are a few mediocre tracks. I'd have to say my 3 favorite albums by him are The River, Nothing, and Cave Days and Moments (in no order).

I've heard rumors of him doing "electronic stuff," which sounds really interesting depending on how he's approaching it. As someone who personally approaches synthesizers with the same gravity, respect, and craft that people like Phil approach tape and tubes, I find that far too often artists who "get into doing some electronic stuff" do so in an incredibly shallow and disrespectful manner, then make incredibly disposable results.

I don't think that Adrian's new direction is upsetting I just wish he would play more shows. He did release six full albums under Thanksgiving and they are all pretty solid.
I feel like Adrian has influenced Phil more than the other way around.

how do you figure?
obviously, they both influence(d) each other, but to say that adrian influenced phil more is just silly, although it's sort of a dumb conversation.

I thought Phil had Welcome with him in Norway, pre colab. It is a dumb thing to talk about, I just always felt like Welcome came out of nowhere, I had never heard anything like that before. I mean it sounds similar but the delivery on the songs is crazy.

Do you mean 'Nothing'? ('Welcome Nowhere' wasn't recorded until 2004) I don't recall Phil talking about Thanksgiving at all in the Dawn journal though.

Perhaps Adrian was influenced by Phil's recording technique after 'Welcome/Nowhere'? He seems to take a more experimental approach to recording on the Thanksgiving 3xLP, 'Cave Days..', 'Bitches is Lord', etc.. 'lo-fi' home-recording, rather than the relatively straightforward sound of his earliest albums.
