despite a humming sound from the amp for the first few songs the sydney show was incredible! the moon and wooly mammoth's mighty absence were the last songs i was expecting to hear live and phil was really humble and down to earth.
the full set was as follows:
through the trees pt. 2 the place i live no inside no out the moon clear moon lone bell headless horseman the place lives i walked home beholding wooly mammoth i say no
did anyone catch the brisbane or perth show? i'd love to hear if he's been mixing the setlist up a little or not. i also recorded tonight's show, it's only iphone quality but it's still audible (and just a little muffled). i'll try get that up this weekend sometime.

Thanks Sam, looking forward to that!
Funny he played Headless Horseman, there was a mention of it in a recent interview (http://mangonebula.blogspot.be/2012/07/there-is-no-nature-part-ii-interview.html):
"At one show in Boston a couple of years ago, I shouted out for you to play “Headless Horseman,” but you said you couldn’t play that anymore. Immediately, in my head I thought that for some reason it must be because fictional Phil had died on The Microphones’ Mount Eerie record. What was the real reason?
Well, I don’t remember the words. I think I could remember the chords. It might come back to me. But, I also just don’t relate to it at all anymore. It would feel weird singing it. It would be like expressing some angst that I felt twelve years ago or something. It just feels weird."

i'm not sure about the brisbane and perth show but a friend went to the melbourne show tonight and said the oldest material covered was from wind's poem so maybe phil was feeling sentimental in sydney on account of the venue choice (amazing cathedral in the heart of city) as promised here is the recording! www.mediafire.com/download.php?qmq2pvq42mdudr8 it's a little rough on the ears at first but as you'll hear phil was having amp troubles until after 'with my hands out' he switched to a DI box and the sound improved greatly. i also took a few photos because as you can see it really was a sight to behold there are a few more photos on my flickr page www.flickr.com/photos/samfoolery/

Thanks so much for the recording, Sam. I'm stoked you got to witness that. The Microphones will live on.

i scanned the setlist i grabbed too. it was written on the back of a business card the support act had at the merch desk so phil must've written it then and there

i'm glad it wasn't too grating on the ears!
if anyone's going ahead to a show in new zealand phil had a few of the new microphones shirts (small and large only, i'm going to have to order a medium online) and lost wisdom, wind's poem, song islands vol. 2, clear moon, ocean roar and the photo book with him. he sold out of everything at the sydney show but i'm guessing he will have more.
it was funny watching him sign records after the show, he asked most fans if they were sure they wanted him to defile the packaging. i already had the records he brought so i asked him if the poster was for sale and he didn't even know there was a poster and grabbed one for himself, telling me that someone must've gone onto his flickr and used a photo from a family camping trip he took last summer and he was more than happy to write his name in the white space above the print.
