*STORY: Saw some kid with a glow pt. 2 muscle tank.
I was like " hey buddy is that a f*ucking microphones shirt". This lead into his eventual bragging about its creation from some "customizable t-shirt" website.
Once that jargon was established, I began telling him how very "un-Phil elverum" it would be to be making your own microphones shirt. I will admit, he looked like he has no idea what I was talking about when I spoke of Phils ethics... leaving me to feel super awkward.
I swiftly apologized and told him it was always nice to see another mount eerie/ microphones fan in NH.
My friend Scott then replied " Chelsea and I became friends because of mount eerie!"
The teenager look Squeemish, as if he had much cooler things to do (and better things to customize on a shirt). we said our good byes as he ran into the coffee shop open mic.
****All of this being said:
I have spent the past damn week thinking "who the fuck am I to be assuming what Phil Elverum would or would not deem acceptable". After listening to all the discography, watching every interview, and reading DAWN do I really have the credentials to be calling some kid out like that?! Also, it's complete unfair to assume what Phils position would be on any of this. My exboyfriend hated mount eerie, always telling me it was bad to idolize Phil Elverum as much as I do. Even now, as I type this, I feel guilty for indulging in such fandom. It's hard. I want to see someone who is direct like mount eerie, who is honest/genuine/true.
Idk if I'm looking for an answer or sounding too 'heady' (despite the fact that I'm sober as they come).
I do know one thing.
Phil would probably think that muscle tank top was hilarious, beautiful, and fucked up ... all in one ...customized for 20.99 w/shipping.
