I can understand not really liking the new MEC if you're a fan of his older stuff...it comes off as a lot more country-oriented and the songs are a lot simpler. I didn't like it that much at first and it's grown on me a lot, but even though I really like it I have to admit that it's nowhere near as good as the older Songs: Ohia albums. i hoped 'josephine' would grow on me as well. i listened to it again a couple of times but my impression of it only got worse. it's not as intense and intimate as his older records. i think i'm more a fan of songs:ohia and his solo work. hm. btw: recently added to my favourites of this year are 'at the cut' by vic chesnutt and 'zebra' by karl blau.

Zebra's great, it's a shame it came out just now because it would make a great summer album. I've been hearing great things about the Real Estate album too, I need to check that out.

Yeah, that, Bill Callahan, and and Timber Timbre are probably my favorite folk albums so far this year.
I also just heard the new Tara Jane O'Neil, which is awesome. Like a mix of Smog, Joni Mitchell, and Grouper.
