I haven't, but the new Magnolia Electric Co. is pretty awesome too. I'm seeing them with Dirty Projectors for FREE in July

anyone heard the new birdengine ep? it's called 'the black dictaphone' and i think it is pretty amazing. it might be possible that he is not that popular in the states as he's an englishman mainly playing in the uk and germany. check him out: www.myspace.com/birdenginei also enjoyed the bill callahan record a lot and i am looking forward to see him play in 2 weeks. but so far there are not too many records that thrilled me this year. (exept white stag, wind's poem and the record my girlfriend released) i even dislike the new magnolia electric co lp although i am quite a fan of jason molina's work. the b-side is good but the a-side does not work for me at all.

I can understand not really liking the new MEC if you're a fan of his older stuff...it comes off as a lot more country-oriented and the songs are a lot simpler. I didn't like it that much at first and it's grown on me a lot, but even though I really like it I have to admit that it's nowhere near as good as the older Songs: Ohia albums.

I've been digging Tiny Vipers' "Life on Earth" so much, I recommend it to everyone.

I keep meaning to check that out, I love the cover but I don't know anything about how it sounds. Does it sound anything like the cover?

Pretty minimal sounding. Very dark but pretty guitar parts. Have heard comparisons of her voice to Neil Young (stylistically I guess, I don't see it so much, but she does have a lower voice for a girl).

I like the sound of that. I've seen it compared to Grouper once or twice, is that accurate?

Um sorta. One time Grouper came to Seattle and Tiny Vipers played the bill with her. It was a great bill. I think Tiny Vipers is more interesting, but I'm not the biggest Grouper fan.
