I tried sharing it with a group of music friends the other night. Their replies: >" I know for one thing that my cousin David did not bomb Kosovo so that Steve Albini could write a P.O.S. blog about who should and shouldn’t pay who. " is this a joke
> wow phil elvrum is a fucking idiot
> Yeah there's absolutely nothing in that interview that's ridiculous enough to out itself as a joke. If he's doing satire or whatever he's doing a piss poor job at it. I mean, on the one hand, you might say that it's just easier for me to spot his humor as someone who follows his similarly absurd/hilarious twitter and comic, but like, then there are sections like this: I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag prematurely, but there might be an emphasized sea change in how I relate to music. It’s not a secret—at least not in the northwest—that I’ve partnered on a restaurant in Ballard. Nothing that’s going to set the world on fire, but above average surf and turf that your average middle- to upper-middle class couple can actually afford.
I pretty much peed my pants. Pretty sure anyone thinking he's being straight here might want to go get their sarcasmometers checked.

I was under the impression that the interview was with one of the people who was playing with him in Mount Eerie during the tour? Or maybe I just got it all wrong. He talks about meeting some girl working at a venue in Richmond, I live in Richmond and know that they did not play here. It's most likely a joke

I've read the interview a couple of times and was totally confused, not sure which parts are serious and which parts aren't.

The whole thing is believable if someone else wrote it. I'd say he's just taking the piss out of characters and personalities he's encountered. It never occurred to me that any of it could be true, it is hilarious though.

probably one of the funniest things I've read in a while honestly Agreed. Phil may be one of our finest living satirists. The second question response had me near tears, so matter of fact and absurd. I'd love it if he wrote a book like this.

Absolutely brilliant. It'd be so easy to listen to Phil's music and assume he's the type that takes himself very seriously.

i met phil recently in new zealand and he told me that this interview was done by a friend of his, jason anderson, he emailed jason the questions and these are the answers that he came up with, and phil read them and decided "fuck it" and sent the answers in. also, apparently its not the first time that phil or his friends have asked jason to answer interview questions for them. hilarious interview.

This is funny, and I was wondering "is this for real?" while I was reading it. I have to admit though, I would have been dissappointed if my interview with Phil turned into this, I really wanted answers so I'm glad I got them. dirtrockzine.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/91/
