I thought I'd post here that I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Phil earlier this week. He's done a lot of great interviews lately on the new album and on his earlier work as the Microphones so I thought I'd just have a more open conversation. We ended up talking a lot about his "No Flashlight" period, probably in part because it's my favorite era of his work but also as I think the themes he was exploring at the time, about his time spent living in the woods and learning to be more receptive to what it has to say, is especially relevant in these times we find ourselves in, with mass extinction, global ecocide, and climate collapse all knocking at the door. More generally relevant though is that he announced what he'll be working on next, which is a photo book accompaniment to "The Microphones in 2020," helping to publish Bret Lundsford's book on folksong collector and experimental filmmaker Harry Smith, and a collection of Geneviève's art. Hope you enjoy <3 tuneglue.substack.com/p/006-phil-elverum-the-microphones

Really loved this one, thanks so much for sharing. Always amazed by Phil's ability to dust himself off and persevere, especially in light of the past few years.
